Working with the Environment Agency and the local community

The Environment and Community

Prior to Calthorpe Estates developing Pebble Mill, one of the environmental risks of the site and adjacent Selly Oak area was severe weather flooding.

Calthorpe Estates invested half of the £4 million funding needed to progress flood defence works as part of the Rea Catchment Partnership project, the Environment Agency funded the remaining amount. As a result of the works which were completed Summer 2019, it has helped to protect over 170 area homes and businesses along the Pershore Road and Selly Park North area, and part of the Pebble Mill site, from flooding. This successful approach has resulted in The Environment Agency developing a case study around the works to demonstrate how future flood works can be taken forward through partnership.
